Why should my child see a paediatric dentist rather than a general dentist?

Meet Our Team

Meet our Team of Specialist Paediatric Dentists

When your child has complex dental needs, we believe they deserve care from a board-registered specialist paediatric dentist.

Paediatric dentists are registered specialists with advanced training in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental conditions affecting babies, toddlers and children. In Australia, they complete a general dentistry degree followed by an additional three-year clinical doctorate in paediatric dentistry.

At the Tooth Fairy Centre, our specialist paediatric dentists work closely with our general dentists, dental therapists and specialist orthodontists to provide comprehensive care for children of all ages.

Paediatric dentists provide a wide range of treatments, including preventive care, management of tooth decay, fissure sealants, and treatment of dental emergencies such as dental trauma, broken or knocked-out teeth.

Beyond their clinical expertise, specialist paediatric dentists are trained in child development and behaviour management. Building trust through age-appropriate communication is central to every appointment. We use gentle techniques, including our “Teddy Bear Therapy” approach, to help children feel relaxed, confident and comfortable throughout their visit.

It is your choice whether you bring your child to see a specialist paediatric dentist, general dentist or oral health therapist, but in order to make that decision it is important first to understand the difference between them.

No referral is needed to book your child an appointment at The Tooth Fairy Centre. Simply call us on (03) 7036 5555 or use our online booking form. If your child has been referred by another dentist or doctor, please bring the referral letter to their first appointment.
